RedSpeed™ Speed Cameras

RedSpeed Camera in Bristol UK

Sometimes referred to as Digital Gatsos or Monitron cameras. These work in a similar way to the Gatso™, however they contain a more sophisticated digital image capture system.

How it works

RedSpeed™ cameras are smaller than Gatsos, sit higher up from the road surface and never run out of film. Instead of using radar to detect speeding vehicles they rely on piezo pressure strips hidden in the road surface to determine if a car is exceeding the speed limit. When it senses a vehicle travelling above a pre-determined speed it will activate the camera.
The camera will take three pictures. Two to confirm the speed of the vehicle in relation to the white lines painted on the road (Much like the Gatso™ system) and a third close up picture to determine the Registration number, make, model and colour of vehicle.
